At the international EARLI SIG 10, 17, 21 and 25 Conference 2026, which took place in Augsburg in 2026, the Chair of School Pedagogy, specialising in empirical classroom research, was represented by two papers.
The conference brings together several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) of the European Association for Research on Learning and Instruction (EARLI), thereby combining perspectives from the fields of Social Interaction in Learning and Instruction (SIG 10), Methods in Learning Research (SIG 17), Diversity in Education (SIG 21) and Educational Theory (SIG 25). This creates an interdisciplinary framework for current issues in teaching and teacher education research.
A paper by Berit Breins, Ann-Kathrin Quarda and Michaela Gläser-Zikuda examined how alienation from school can be understood as a complex interplay of motivational, emotional and social experiences, and what potential network analysis approaches offer for investigating this. The focus was on a nuanced examination of individual aspects of alienation from school and their interrelationships.
A second paper presented initial evaluation results from the LeadCom project (‘Digital Leadership & Communication Development’), which focuses on the development of open, digital professional development formats for teachers and school leaders. The central question was how scalable, OER-based professional development programmes can be effectively implemented and scientifically monitored under real-world conditions.
These presentations illustrate the breadth of current research at the Chair – ranging from the analysis of socio-emotional processes in the school context to the design and evaluation of digitally supported professional development programmes.
